Tips to manage the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome

IBSI am 70 years old and have been suffering from IBS or irritable bowel syndrome for a few years now. My problem is that the level of flatulence has become unbearable which is also making my movement very uncomfortable. Is there any medicine which can reduce the stress? IBS is a group of symptoms that is caused due to the changes in the functions of the GI tract. Often the symptoms include stomach ache (lower region), diarrhoea, bloating and constipation. If you have been diagnosed with IBS by a doctor, it is likely that he/she has prescribed you antispasmodics for the pain. The best way to keep the symptoms is to avoid complex carbohydrates and pulses, smoking, alcohol (read about the top flop food combinations that could make your condition worse).

Some people have found that giving up milk and dairy products has helped them. Eat more fruits, fiber-rich food and green leafy vegetables. Probiotics have also been shown to provide relief. It is a good idea to keep a food diary which can help you correlate the food you eat and your IBS symptoms. In any case, if your symptoms are getting worse and are affecting your bowel movements, it is a good idea to go for a colonoscopy.
