Thyroid disease -- be it hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism - is commonly seen in women and is responsible for many health problems like weight gain and hormonal imbalances. But this does not mean that men do not suffer from thyroid imbalance. Although women are at a high risk of thyroid problems, even men can suffer from the condition. According to statistics, men have up to 8 times less chance of developing hypothyroidism than women. 1. Hypothyroidism is a silent disease that has shown an increasing trend in the recent times. Although the symptoms of hypothyroidism in men are same as that in women like weight gain, weakness, fatigue, high cholesterol and depression, there are few additional symptoms seen in men. These include decreased muscular strength, erectile dysfunction (impotence), low sex drive and hair loss.
