10 things left-handed people do differently

If the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handed people are in their right mind!

conditions-things left-handed people do differently-THS

Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein had one thing in common. Yes, they were genius but they were also left-handed. Even Amitabh Bacchan is left-handed. I am guessing left-handed people are no less when compared to any right-handed individual. However, there are few everyday things that they do differently and often have trouble with. I am a left-handed person and can relate to most of these. Read on and check if you are able to relate to these too: Also Read - Repeating actions can trick your brain to form good habits

  1. College desks: College and school desks are all designed for right-handed students and it was so uncomfortable to keep your book in that small flap desk attached to the chair and write.
  2. Measuring cup readings: Have you noticed that most measuring cup readings are designed such that it is easy to read if you are holding the handle of the cup with a right hand. For people like us, we have to turn the cup around to check the readings time and again. Same applies for coffee mugs with pretty designs. We can never flaunt them unless we hold the mug with our right hand.
  3. Ink on your hand: If your child comes back with ink smudges on his/hand, don t blame them for being messy. Try writing with your left hand and you will know. Since you end up placing your left hand on the wet ink while writing in a flow, it s obvious that some of it gets transferred to your hand. Did you know using your left hand can help boost brain power? Read more..
  4. Tying shoe laces: This is not from personal experience. However, quite a few mothers of left-handed children have observed that their children learn the trick to tie shoe laces a little later. So if you have observed something similar, just relax. Your kid is not a slow learner.
  5. Scissors: These can be quite troublesome. I never get them right in the first go. In fact, I have had my thumb stuck in the finger slot many time and struggled to remove it. Same applies for the old aged peelers. Fortunately, someone designed the two way peelers and made at least one task easy for us. For right-handed people, using the wrong hand for few activities can help maintain your cool according to a research published in the journal Current Directions in Psychological Science.
  6. Kissing and greeting wrong: Hope you haven t ended up in a lip lock with someone you wanted to just greet with a peck at a party. It may have gone unnoticed but left-handed people usually greet or kiss on the opposite side first and this usually creates an awkward moment.
  7. Putting on the jacket: Have you helped your left-handed husband or kid while wearing a jacket? Invariably, you will be holding the right sleeve for them while they are ready with to tuck the left hand and vice versa if you are left-handed and everyone else in the family is right-handed.
  8. Hangers are put the wrong way: Don t scold your child for not placing the hangers the right way. Left-handed people always do it the other way round. It will take a little practice to get it right, no pun intended.
  9. Wear the belt differently: Yes, we wear the belt differently. We go from left to right and sometimes mess up with the overall look of the belt or have twisted belt while buckling it. But in case of simple belts you won t even notice.
  10. Taps, faucets and screws: My husband turns the tap on for the fresh water supply and I go turn it on too. Only in my case, I am actually turning it off. Left-handed people usually open and close faucets, taps and even insert screws or unscrew in the opposite direction and it has happened to everyone. So next time someone mocks at you for not knowing basics, tell them you are special because you are left-handed!
