Brain fog is a term used to describe mental confusion or a lack of clarity, often characterized by forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, and feeling mentally sluggish. It can be caused by factors such as lack of sleep, stress, poor diet, hormonal changes, medications, or underlying health conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome or post-COVID syndrome. Managing brain fog typically involves improving sleep, reducing stress, maintaining a healthy diet, staying hydrated, and seeking medical advice if symptoms persist.

Brain Fog: Why Is It Still A Serious Health Issue?

Brain is not a medical condition on its own. How? This term was coined to describe more than one symptom. It encompasses a range of symptoms pertaining to cognitive function. In layman's terms, it can be described as when a person is trying to think and while doing so he or she has to trudge through a fog right when the mind is also functioning in slow motion.

The most common signs that indicate brain fog are trouble concentrating and focusing, forgetting to do important tasks, you may even forget people's names. Brain fog often feels like your mind running on low battery even after more than seven hours of sleep. There may be nothing wrong with you physically but you might feel stuck, uninspired, de-motivated, etc.

Brain fog is not a new terminology but now, you may be hearing this all the time. Brain fog became a serious health impact after COVID-19 pandemic. Research says that COVID-19 and its impact on cognitive heath can remain for days and years and this is true. May people report feeling the effects of brain fog in particular even today, which is five years after COVID-19.

Other Factors Impacting Brain Fog

While we talk about how brain fog turned out to be such a major health concern impacting a huge population, we should also address the factors impacting it. Take a look:

  1. Brain fog does not happen just because of one factor but many others.
  2. Did you know that a combination of factors are responsible for brain fog.
  3. One major reason is poor diet. Poor diet can impact you in ways you cannot fathom, one of it being, hindrance to proper cognitive functioning.
  4. Another reason is poor sleep. If you are not getting seven ho9urs of sleep every day, moreover, you get erratic, disturbed sleep, brain fog is inevitable.
  5. Your brain chemistry may also get altered because of excess sugar intake, junk food, processed food and alcohol consumption.
