Period pain or cramps can be pretty unnerving, especially when you don’t have the privilege of lying in bed and resting. The pain starts in the lower abdomen and radiates all the way to the thighs, causing you extreme discomfort. Many women prefer popping pills to relieve the excruciating pain, but it’s not healthy to take painkillers at the slightest hint of pain. There are various home remedies you can try to get some relief from menstrual pain, and one such remedy is Chamomile tea. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effects that relax your muscles and relieves you from menstrual cramps. It also has sedative and anti-anxiety effects that calm your nerves and offer immediate relief from pain. The study ‘Effect of Medicinal Herbs on Primary Dysmenorrhoea- a Systematic Review’ was published in the Iranian Journal of Pharmaceutical Research : IJPR. It is also believed that chamomile not only has a significant effect on pelvic and abdominal pain, but it is also useful in tackling depression and anger, especially when one is going through PMS. The study also says that chamomile is more efficient in reducing pre-menstrual pain if you start using it even before the pain begins. How to use chamomile to reduce menstrual pain

It is best to brew chamomile tea and sip it regularly to soothe your menstrual cramps. Chamomile tea is easily available in the market; you can pick up any brand of your choice.

Here’s how you can make chamomile tea

Boil a cup of water in a pot. Add two-three teaspoons of chamomile tea and let it infuse for three minutes. Strain the tea in a cup. Add a teaspoon of honey or add some lemon juice for taste.
