You can't decide what to throw
You are just not able to throw or dispose of anything. You feel emotionally strained when you are asked to throw something away. You end up collecting everything.
People with serious hoarding problems get lonely over a period of time. 'It is difficult for people to understand hoarders. Either people stop talking to hoarders or hoarders push others away because they don't get it or understand them,' explains Kunjal Shah.
It gives you a sense of security

You feel insecure and low if anyone throws away anything from your collection. You feel like you have lost something that's very important to you even if you don't really use the thing.
Have issues moving on
'Hoarders generally find it difficult to move on with new things in life. It is because they are attached to the past, which is why they collect and preserve everything', Shah feels. Be it old newspapers, chocolate wrappers, clothes, cosmetics or anything, you can't move on by shutting your past away.
Sense of control
You have a sense of control when you collect these things and you don't allow anyone near your collection at all. Some people don't even let their friends or relatives take a look at the collection fearing that they might lose it.
