Who does not like a hot shower after a long day? Honestly, if someone would ask us to stand under a shower panel for hours, we would happily do that. There are various studies which showed t hat shower can relax your muscles, awaken your mind and help you fall asleep [1]. But while you can take a shower any time of the day, a shower before hitting the bed can be a great idea. Here s why.

Pre-bedtime shower helps your body to cool down, relax and help you get a good night's sleep [2]. But the timing is key for a pre-bedtime shower. You must ideally go to bed when your body is cooled down. The optimal time to take a shower is ninety minutes before the bed. By then, your body can regulate its circadian rhythms which is essentially the signals which tell your body when to feel sleepy and when to feel alert. Right after the shower you are likely to heat up and feel more alert and active but as time passes your body will cool down and you will feel more primed for rest. Here are five mistakes you commit while taking a shower.

You must ideally go for a hot water bath in the night.

  • Hot water baths are excellent to cleanse your body as the warmer temperatures tend to kill all the germs that you are exposed to throughout the day. It is also helpful in maintaining better personal hygiene.
  • They are also known to beat insomnia and sleep disorders and are excellent to induce sleep.
