Do you feel tired and low on energy? This is often due to the low haemoglobin count in your blood. It is important that you maintain regular levels of haemoglobin to avoid suffering from anemia. Low levels of iron in the body often lead to a low haemoglobin count and may often be the beginning of anemia. You would seldom need supplements if you eat the right foods and ensure that your diet is balanced with all the nutrients that the body requires. (Read: Why is haemoglobin important?)
Having heard of roasted chana and jaggery being excellent foods to boost haemoglobin, I decided to confirm this with our expert Deepshikha Agarwal, noted sports nutritionist and dietitian, and here s what she says:
How does chana and jaggery help?
Jaggery is a rich source of iron and has simple sugars in it. This helps provide the body with the necessary iron that it needs to maintain an optimum haemoglobin count. Roasted chana, on the other hand, is a rich source of protein and has a considerable amount of iron too. These two ingredients in combination not only help prevent anemia and boost the haemoglobin count but also provide energy. You feel energetic all day while your body works to absorb the iron in the body. Did you know jaggery also helps in cleansing the liver and prevents constipation?
How to use it?
Stock up on roasted chana, which is readily available everywhere, and jaggery. A handful of roasted chana can be munched along with the jaggery or one after the other. The combination, however, tastes better. To know more on natural ways to improve haemoglobin counts, read here.
