A raw papaya salad is what you need for healthy digestive tract

Processed foods can cause a lot of strain on our digestive systems. Popping antacids or sipping on fruits salts is not very good for your health in the long run. Choosing foods that help aid digestion and keep the digestive tract functioning smoothly is the best way to pamper our tummy. One such food is raw papaya a treasure cove of health benefits. The fibre and protein content of raw papaya is higher than that of the ripe varieties. Papain and chymopapain, the main nutrients present in papaya, aid digestion. Along with other phytonutrients and enzymes, it flushes out the toxins from the body and helps regulate the digestion process. Latex, which is another important enzyme, improves the muscle contractions in the digestive tract which leads to proper movement of food during various stages of digestion and also cleans up the colon by flushing out the waste and toxins. The high fibre content of raw papaya is effective in regulating bowel movements by softening the stools and reducing constipation. Here is a list of fibre rich foods that you can include in your diet.

Using raw papaya

Raw papaya is commonly used in salads. Fine slivers can be mixed with a sweet and tangy dressing and some coriander for a tasty and healthy raw papaya salad. It can also be stir-fried in little oil, mustard and turmeric for 2-3 minutes and used as a side dish with Indian meals. Grated raw papaya can be added to theplas or paranthas too.
