Radish or mooli – a natural remedy to deal with piles

Unlike other edible roots like carrots and beetroot, radish is not as commonly eaten. However, this white colored vegetable can act as an effective natural aid to relieve symptoms of piles and also prevent further worsening of the condition. So if you are suffering from piles or are at a high risk of this condition, including this vegetable in your diet might do the trick. But this doesn t mean that you stop taking medications to treat piles as it shows effective results when taken along with medication.

How does it help?

Radish is a rich source of dietary fibre, which not only helps in softening the stools by adding bulk to the stools but also aids in digestion. Moreover, the secondary metabolites like raphanin, glucosilinates and vitamin C in radish help in lowering the risk inflammation due to piles and hastening the healing process. It also contains volatile oils, which not only helps in reducing swelling and relieving itching and pain in piles due to its anti-inflammatory properties [1]. How to use it?

You can use white radish for the treatment of piles in two different ways depending upon the severity of the condition.

To relieve pain during the initial stages: Add a teaspoon of honey to 100 mg of grated radish, mix well and eat this mixture twice a day to get rid of the pain. It also helps you to fight anal itching and constipation, which are common in people suffering from piles [1]. If you don t like eating it, then you can add a pinch of salt to a glass of radish juice and drink it twice a day for effective results.
