How many times have the loos in the country betrayed you, sisters? Finding a clean loo has been a next to impossible task, especially if you are on a road trip. Over the years, conventional female wisdom has taught us how to wrap dirty toilet seats with tissue papers and hover over the commode to relieve ourselves. In moments of utter desperation, many of us have bitten the bullet and made full butt contact with the dirty toilet seat, but not without the risks of contraction some nasty UTIs.
Men, the world is your urinal. You could pee just about anywhere as long as there is ground under your feet. Mother Nature, unfortunately, has not been that generous to us. Besides not being ladylike, squatting just about anywhere is not a practical or a hygienic solution to relieving ourselves on the go.
The product
It s not exactly penis envy, but I know every woman at some point of time may have resented men for their ability to go anywhere and at any time, especially when we are pressed for clean loos. Don t you sometimes wish you had the same privilege? Well, that s where Pee Buddy comes into the picture. The brainchild of Delhi-based organisation First Step Projects, Pee Buddy is a female urinating device that saves you from dirty public toilets. This simple cardboard contraption can be held against the female genitalia, helping you pee standing in situations where clean loos are not available.
A pack of Pee Buddy is worth Rs. 120 and contains five funnel-shaped cardboard devices. Each is made of coated, waterproof paper meant for a single use. I ll admit that I was a little confused when I first heard about the concept. But my colleagues and I decided to give it a shot and see whether Pee Buddy is the saviour we were all waiting for. Surprisingly, it wasn t that bad!
How to use Pee Buddy
Move your panties aside and press the broader end of the Pee Buddy funnel against your genitalia.
Tilt your hips and point the spout end downwards towards the commode. Don t miss this step.
Now swallow the funny feeling and do your business as you would normally do.
Place it in the disposal bag and throw it in the bin.
The review
I just have one thing to say: Why didn t anyone come up with this sooner? I m pleasantly surprised by how convenient and effective it is, considering it is just a cardboard funnel. Following are its pros and cons.
Pros
Does what it says. It helps you pee standing!
It is a simple solution to a complicated problem.
It can be used in restaurants, nightclubs, malls, airports, hospitals, basically anywhere where there is a chance of encountering bad loos.
It s disposable. So you don t have to deal with the icky prospects of cleaning it afterwards.
It s biodegradable.
It could also work for women who have trouble squatting or sitting due to arthritis, pregnancy or injuries.
It comes recommended by doctors.
Convenient for travel.
Cons
It s important to tilt your hips and bend a little, lest you end up spraying your urine across the place. We are women; we are yet to perfect peeing standing up and learning more about urine trajectories.
At Rs 120 per packet, Pee Buddy doesn t come cheap.
The edges of the funnel are a little too pointy and sharp. As far as the design of the funnel is concerned, there is some room for improvement.
Final verdict
Go for it!
