Relocating could be a real mess without proper planning. And more so, if it is during monsoons. Even if the floors are cleaned, make sure that the walls, toilet seat, kitchen and drains are at their hygienic best. If not so, here are few quick-fixes to make your new house a hygienic place to live-in.
Walls: Use a long-tail broom to reach out the top corners of the walls and remove dust and webs (if any). Make sure you clean the walls in a top-to-bottom direction. Because, dust and germs present on the walls increase your risk of infections and allergy (especially during monsoons).
Kitchen: The next big thing after walls is cleaning the kitchen. If you are using any strong cleaning agents, ensure to air the kitchen for a day or two before you start using it. Also, note the presence of pests, cockroaches and signs of rats in the kitchen and if possible, call a pest control before you relocate to the new house. Here are 7 simple tips to ensure cleanliness in your kitchen.
Drains and pipes: Check for open drains (if any) as they permit entry of rats and cockroaches, which in turn cause various diseases. Hence, place drain covers on all such opening. Also, use a plunger to unclog the drains (even if they are not clogged) and pipes to prevent clogging. And do not forget to clean sink, washbasin, shower, toilet and balcony drains.
Glass surfaces: As glass covers are highly susceptible to scratching and dust, you are prone to allergy and respiratory illnesses. To avoid such cases, use a soft cloth to dust these glass surfaces. Also, while cleaning them use a window or glass cleaning agents and not the harsh chemical based ones.
Toilet and toilet seats: Last but not the least, the toilet seat is loaded with numerous germs and hence, has to be cleaned with a strong cleaning agent. Although it can be cleaned using a sponge soaked in liquid soap and water mixture, adding a disinfectant/antiseptic to the mixture makes it highly effective against microbes. And for cleaning the toilet bowl, leave the cleaning agent for few minutes, scrub it and finally wash it with water. Also read about these simple and effective cleaning hacks.
