Alert pet owners! There has been an increase in the number of parvovirus cases among pet dogs in India and experts have warned that this can lead to a severe outbreak. At a time when the country is fighting its biggest battle against ferocious coronavirus in its second wave, cases of a new virus spreading rapidly among the furry animals are on the rise Parvovirus. According to the veterinarians, dogs who are less than a year old are more at risk, since their immunity is low as compared to the dogs of other ages. Speaking to the media, a Chennai-based veterinarian said, "The number of dogs with parvovirus infection has gone up in the past month due to weather changes, lack of vaccination, and low immunity system." He further added that the infected dogs should be taken to the hospital immediately after developing symptoms. "This is a deadly disease. If proper treatments are not given soon, the dog will die within 4-5 days," the veterinarian said.

Parvovirus is highly contagious and spreads rapidly through direct contact with an infected dog or by indirect contact with any contaminated object. Experts have warned that a dog is exposed to the deadly virus every time he/she touches the feces of an infected dog. Your pet can also catch the virus when a person who has been exposed to the parvovirus from another pet touches your pup, or a healthy puppy touches any contaminated object such as food, leashes, etc.
Since this virus is dangerous and can lead to death, it is important for all dog owners to know the signs of the virus infection.
