Sweating is a natural phenomenon our body s way to maintain the body temperature. However, some parts of the body sweat more than the others for example, your palms. According to a research published in Arch Dis Child, palm sweating has very little to do with the ambient temperature. It is observed that certain emotional factors like fear or stress are primary causes of palm sweating than just the heat or humidity.
If you fall in the category of people who face moderately sweaty palms in situations of anxiety like during an interview, meetings, examinations or presentations, the situation can be handled with some natural remedies.
Wash your hands more often than your counterparts who do not face this issue. If on-the-go, you may use an alcohol-based sanitizer and a dry tissue to clean your hands.
Avoid keeping your hands folded, fisted or tucked in pockets. Your palms need to breathe in fresh air and exposing them will help them dry too.
Brew regular black tea in 1 litre of water and allow it to cool completely. Soak your hands in it for half an hour each night to reduce palm sweating. The tannic acid in tea exhibits both astringent and antiperspirant properties. This acid constricts the sweat glands and hence reduces the sweating of palms. The International Hyperhidrosis Society suggests using astringent products since they reduce sweating by shrinking of pores.
In their book Symptoms: Their Causes and Cures the Prevention Magazine Editors (author) suggest soaking your hands in cold (refrigerated) water for half an hour can prevent sweating of palms for about three hours.
Dab on some talc on your palms to curb the sweat and keep them fragrant. It will help in absorbing all the sweat and keep your palms dry. However, do remember to wash your hands if you eat with your hands.
If you ever experience dripping sweat issues, it is best to consult a dermatologist to address the problem.
