The world is growing at an unprecedented rate, and there is too much to cope with. The accelerated growth, and the ever-growing competition of who gets where puts us in a negative place where we tend to get overwhelmed too quickly and give up easily in the face of this crisis. Our behavior that is born out of this system often pushes us behind the boundaries of doing the bare minimum and we often end up putting ourselves in a vicious circle that stagnates our growth and progress.
Such behaviour that deteriorates the pace of our progress and makes us get stuck in a cycle of lethargy and chaos that takes away our spark is often termed self-sabotaging behavior.
Moreover, it is a behavior that refers to actions or restrictive thought patterns that knowingly or unknowingly interfere with one's long-term goals and overall development. It is identified as a pattern of self-destructive behaviours that undermines success and puts constraints on the achievement of the desired outcome
These certain factors lead to a self-sabotaging behaviour:
People fear success as it gets accompanied by a change in lifestyle patterns, increased expectations and societal pressure, thus limiting the growth of an individual.
People with self-sabotaging behavior often have poor and restrictive self-perception of themselves, they tend to belittle themselves and suffer through constant feelings of unworthiness, the people often push themselves to believe this to limit the fear of failure.
Trauma contributes extensively to this situation as previous experiences, more particularly childhood trauma, mold an individual's beliefs and lifestyle patterns, leading to self-sabotaging patterns.
Self-sabotaging behavior is linked with fear of confrontation, this leads to a person avoiding certain emotions, and running away from these emotions can hamper personal development and growth.
The vision to reach heights and be the best, the constant urge to take charge of situations and do things perfectly. The eternal quest for unachievable perfection leads one to the path of procrastination, self-doubt, and being apprehensive of failing ends up restricting the stream of progress and knowledge.
Self-sabotaging behavior becomes unavoidable at times but there are certain things that you can practice to cure and prevent it.
It is important to find the loopholes in our behavior and the pattern of our lifestyle, detection of negative behavior can help limit the impact and be more progressive.
Self Sabotaging behavior is certainly negative but the right amount of attention and vigilance can certainly help break its patterns and create positive changes. Moreover, it is important to think good of yourself because it is the mind full of negativity that does more harm than any negative thing.
