While you may need the help of medicines to control diarrhoea, a proper meal plan will help slow your motions and make you feel better while providing you with the nutrients. The key is to eat small meals throughout the day instead of having a larger one. A small meal will not trigger bouts of diarrhea and will be easy to digest. Here s what your meals should look like according to nutritionist Anvesha Sharma.
Breakfast: A bland breakfast can help you recover from diarrhoea while helping you maintain a proper nutrient intake. You can have a banana with a lightly toasted white bread. Be sure not to have whole wheat bread during episodes of diarrhea as your stomach will have a harder time digesting the fibre in whole grains. The potassium content in a banana can help replace and balance the electrolytes in your body.
Mid-morning snack: Have a glass of buttermilk as your mid-morning snack. It is packed with good bacteria that will aid digestion and regulate bowel movements and will also have a calming effect on your intestine.
Lunch: For lunch too, continue with eating low-fibre and bland foods. Just a serving of baked or boiled potato and a bowl of white rice can fill you up while being easy on your stomach. You can also have lauki ki sabzi along with rice as it will improve digestion. If you like curd, you can also eat curd rice. The curd will help build good bacteria in your gut and reduce acidity caused by diarrhoea.
Evening snack: Orange can be a suitable evening snack for diarrhoea as it can not only aid digestion but will also have a calming effect on the stomach. You should avoid these foods when you have diarrhoea.
Dinner: A clear soup can make for a healthy, easily-digestible addition to your meal. You can also only eat dal chawal or dal khichdi for dinner. While pulses are high in fibre, moong dal is the only pulse which is easily digestible. However, remember to eat smaller portions than usual until your condition subsides.
