Sleep to keep negative thoughts awayNothing can beat the happiness of a good night's sleep. We all know that sleep is important for the body to recover from stress that builds up throughout the day. But it also plays an important role in keeping you happy. Here's exactly how it helps you:

The amygdala and hypocampus

Sleep helps you keep negativity away by inducing positive thoughts in your mind. In scientific language, all negative thoughts or messages are processed by a region in the brain called the amygdala, while all positive as well as neutral memories are generated in the region called hippocampus. Now, when you're sleep deprived, it directly affects the hippocampus with lesser or no impact on the amygdala. Therefore, in the daytime you fail to retrieve pleasant or happy memories from your brain. All these memories kind of get masked by gloomy or negative thoughts arising from the amygdala.

This effect can get amplified to such an extent that sleep deprived individuals may not even remember or recollect words that are linked to happiness or positive thoughts. They are constantly surrounded by emotions like fear, anger and frustration. Besides, lack of sleep goes hand in hand with chronic conditions like stress, diabetes, heart disease and depression. So, it's better to have a fixed schedule that covers at least 7 hours of good quality sleep. Here are 7 simple tips to for a good night's sleep
