Sofia Vergara looks like a goddess on screen, perfectly blending into the character that she plays. But, off screen, she is like a regular person with vices and unhealthy indulgences. The actor recently admitted in an interview with People magazine that she is addicted to sweets and sugar. "Well, I have an addiction to sweets, to sugar," the 51-year-old shared with the publication, adding: "And, I have come to terms with it, because I have tried many things, even hypnotism, and it doesn't work." In the interview, the 'Griselda' star also confessed that she tries to have "a balanced diet when I can, or I don't eat hamburger, pizza, fattening things". "I try to eat healthy so that I can eat sweets."

Sugar Addiction

According to addictioncenter.com, emotional or psychological dependence on sugary foods and drinks -- also known as sugar addiction -- is a 'very real cause for concern' among health officials in the US. Processed foods and refined grains, for instance, create additional sugar in the body once the body metabolises the food. And while sugar in moderation is not harmful, one must not consume too much of it, because it can dangerously harm the health.

Limiting Sugar Consumption

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that consuming too many sugary drinks is associated with:

Coming back to Vergara's interview, the 'Modern Family' alum stated that her go-to sweet item is cake. "It's always cake. I mean, any kind. But, I do like dulce de leche... it is like caramel. Usually they do not do it that great here in L.A. I haven't found anyone, but when I go to Miami or Latin America, they're great."

The actor, however, added that she is also 'committed to exercise'. "I have bad knees so I've never been really into crazy workouts. I've worked out like an older person my whole life." She likes to do curl-ups. "But, I am constant. I do it often because I can't do spinning or any of those sexy exercises now."

Sugar Withdrawal

Addictioncenter.com states that people who eliminate sugar from their diet experience withdrawal symptoms often, which include 'irritability, fogginess, moodiness, and low energy'. Many choose to unfortunately go back to eating sugary foods to experience the 'chemical release' in the brain. One can try to do a dietary swap, wherein sugar can be replaced with natural and healthy options.

Exercise To Control Sugar

The Cleveland Clinic mentioned that exercise is the best way to reduce sweet cravings. It decreases ghrelin levels in the body, and also enables you to be more active, get more sleep and stay asleep longer. All of these things can reduce cravings and stress.
