Even though farting is one of the most natural things, you would not like to do it in front of someone else. So you hold in your fart for hours and when you are alone you get a sweet release, letting it all out. But can holding back your fart be okay for your system? Let us hear it from Dr Ninad Kakde.

Is it okay to hold a fart?

Sometimes the food and bacteria that ferment in the stomach lead to acidity and sometimes it are because of lactose or glucose intolerance. Even if your stomach can process wheat and milk, other food items like broccoli and asparagus that are a little difficult to digest lead to all the gas. But breathe a sigh of relief as holding your fart will not have any serious effect on your health. If your body wants to get rid of some extra air, it is going to happen eventually. Sure you might be focused on releasing the gas together, but you pass gas 10 to 20 times in a day as you are going about our business without even realising it. Here's why you sometimes fart before peeing.

That being said, the only time you can suffer from side effects of holding in your fart is when you have severe obstructions in your colon. Your colon can blow up like a balloon because of the entire blockage. But there is no reason for you to be worried because that kind of impact happens only in very critical patients and it is very rare. And although holding in your gas won t harm you, it can make you feel very uncomfortable. Any kind of build up in the lower gastrointestinal tract can eventually lead to bloating.

So just excuse yourself to a restroom where you can release in peace. And if you want to cut down on farting altogether, eat more probiotics to help align the bacteria in your gut. Here are 7 reasons why you keep farting every now and then.
