How to reduce uric acid levels naturallyHi, I am 50 years old and I am suffering from gout. My uric acid level is always high. It lowers only when I stop taking medicine. Can you suggest any lifestyle and dietary tips to reduce it naturally?

Lifestyle diseases are on the rise today and gout features prominently in this list. As is the case with most of these diseases, it is also the result of unhealthy lifestyles and unplanned diets. To reduce your uric acid levels you should check your overall food consumption. Here are 5 easy ways that can help you:

  1. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day. Drinking water at intervals keeps your body hydrated so that uric acid crystals do not form at all. A healthy intake of water can help flush excess uric acid out of the body.
  2. Increase your consumption of antioxidant-rich foods like cherries, blueberries, blackberries, grapes and pineapples. They prevent inflammation of the joints and help in the excretion of uric acid.
  3. Try apple cider vinegar. Not only is it known to lower uric acid levels, but it also helps to reduce arthritic pain, even when used as a topical application.
  4. Stay away from foods that can cause gout or trigger inflammation. These include beans, mushrooms, meat and fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines and crab.
  5. Although patients with gout are advised to limit alcohol intake, the best option would be to eliminate it completely. Alcohol not only increases the risk of gout it also increases the severity of symptoms.

Here are a few more tips that can help you reduce uric acid levels.
