Holi is around the corner and with all the colours and water it is quite possible the your home may be the center of all the holi fun. But before you start panicking and trying to cover all your furniture and upholstery in protective wrap, read on to find easy ways to clean up your home.

How you can fix it

IF you have tiled floors then coloured water is definitely a recipe for disaster. If you do find that there is water and colour on the floor, dab up the water with a tissue or old news paper. Do not allow it to remain on the floor as the colour can stain your flooring. If dry colour does fall on the floor, simply sweeping it away will do the trick. If your floors do get stained, to get rid of it mix some baking soda in some water to make a paste. Now, pour that on the stain and allow it to stay there till it is dry. Wipe it off using a wet rag to wipe it off.

Cleaning wooden furniture

Getting colours off wooden furniture is unsightly and cleaning it can be difficult. If dry colours fall in your furniture simply dusting it off should be enough, but if the colour is mixed with water then the likelihood of it staining it. To remove the stain, wet a small cotton ball in acetone and use to to remove the stain. This may remove the varnish off some delicate furniture so be gentle when you are cleaning.

When curtains, cushions or other upholstery becomes wet, it is a breeding ground for fungus and mould.

How you can fix it

If dry colour falls on your cushion or upholstery do not use your hand to dust it off, instead use a broom or even better vacuum it off. If the colour falls with water, soaking the material in water with some white vinegar helps get rid of the stain. In the case of cushions, use a cotton ball to soak the stain with vinegar or lemon juice, allow it to settle for about 15 minutes and then wipe it off with cotton ball.

Cleaning your clothes:

After you play holi, cleaning the soiled clothes can be a daunting task. But it must be done in order to keep infections at bay.

How you can do it

Soak the clothes in a bucket of hit soapy water for about half an hour, next throw out the water and rinse the clothes in some more water. After all the excess colour has washed out, you can use the washing machine to clean your clothes.

Other items in the house

Cleaning your windows, glass and window panes can be fairly easy. You can use acetone on the wooden frame and baking soda mixed with water for the glass surfaces.
