Before you take medications to do away with the pain, remember that the way you sleep is critical to healing, reducing inflammation and improving your mood. But at the same time when you are experiencing pain whether, from a pounding headache or period cramps, it can be tough to get some sleep. In fact, when you do not get to rest, the pain only increases. Sleep expert Dr Ajay Gupta shares tips on how you should sleep to reduce the intensity of pain and get restful sleep.
When you get a headache: Lie straight on your back and place your head in the middle of the pillow so that you can prevent the pillow from turning and twisting while you are asleep. This technique can help you get some quality sleep. Here's why you should take headaches more seriously.
When you get your period cramps: Lie on your back and place a pillow under your ankles to get some relief from the painful cramps. Make sure that your spine is not bent while you lie down.
When you suffer from a cold: Lie on your back and place several pillows (2-3 pillows) one on top of the other so that the level of your head is higher than the level of your body. This will reduce the discomfort.
If you have a stomach pain: Lie on the left side on our bed and place a pillow between your knees to get some sleep. Know the types of stomach pains and what they indicate.
When you suffer from back pain: Lie on your back and put a pillow under your knees. Then place a rolled-up towel under your lower back to get some relief from all the pain and discomfort. Here are healthy sleeping positions to avoid back pain and heartburn.
If you have pain in the neck: Lie down on your back, place your head on a pillow. Now roll up a towel and place the towel under your neck.
If you have shoulder pain: Lie down on your left side and draw up your knees. Then squeeze a pillow between your knees for some comfort. Press your chest for a second and then relax.
