All of us have been through this, our first ever period, YES! Back then when you were playful and carefree and you suddenly bumped into these weird changes in your body. Many of the girls, like me and many of you too, knew about menstrual cycles and the whole concept of periods before hand from various sources, maybe the internet, family or friend. But some of the girls weren't 'privileged' enough, when I say 'privileged' I mean it, you'll get to know why after reading these horrific stories of girls and their first period. They had no idea what was happening to them and even though for no matter how normal periods seem now because we know about it for them it was a havoc. Here are 3 such stories:

1. Amanda(name changed) was playing basket ball while she got her first period and of course she had no idea about what period was. She had her whole white skirt stained and she was playing with boys too. Then a boy who too was of her age screamed bringing everyone's attention to her skirt and then life changed for Amanda. They were young too, every one thought she pooped and they began laughing at her. She cried her way back home. She never played basket ball for the longest of time after that.

2. This story is about a girl who was one of the most popular girls in school and was proud of it('you know that meant a lot in school time' she says). Shilpa would participate in every co-curricular activities at school. One day, right before her dance performance at school she had her first ever periods, something she had no clue about. She didn't leave the washroom and was crying all along. "I felt like I was dirty and thought I had a disease", she says. "It was not just one performance that I had missed, it was a lot that happened to my mind".

3. Akshara(name changed) had what she calls, 'traumatizing first-period experience'. She was in her swimming classes and thankfully wasn't in the pool but because of all the water on the floor where she waited for her turn she saw all blood around. All kids were confused and nobody went close to her.Only after 15 mins when the teacher arrived and took her away she realized what had happened to her. It took really long for her to make friends after that. Though, these were some really saddening experiences on this note, we request all parents, teachers, counselors and anyone reading this, its only you who can change this. Please educate your girls about periods before it is time and don't let it be a terrifying experience of life. Let us know your views in the comment section below.
