The prostate is an important gland in the male reproductive system of humans. A nut sized gland present along the front wall of the pelvis, this gland's main function is to secrete a fluid that preserves and nourishes sperm. Due to its position on the urethra (the tube that brings urine from the bladder to the penis) however, if the organ gets inflamed, it can lead to urinary disorders. Commonly seen in men above the age of 50, there are a number warning signs that could indicate a prostate disorder, some of the more common ones are:
The lack of passing urine, an intermediate or interrupted flow of urine.
Frequent need to void urine during the night.
Dull and aching pain in the lower back, legs, hips and feet.
While there are a number of reasons for which this condition may occur, there are a few natural remedies one can try to relieve this congestion. Here are some simple remedies you can try:
Pumpkin seeds: These tiny seeds are packed with a large number of health benefits including ones that help people with prostate enlargement. Being a storehouse of unsaturated fatty acids a component that is essential for the proper functioning of the prostate gland these seeds are also great to relieve common prostate related problems such as experiencing a burning sensation while passing urine. Dr H.K Bhakru, Naturopath, suggests that men with this problem should have at least 60-90g of pumpkin seed powder every day. Read more about the health benefits of pumpkin seeds.
Tip: In order to use this seed effectively, it is best used in its powdered form. A good way to regularly use this seed is to mix it with wheat flour and eat it in the form of chapatis. Another good way to use this powder is to sprinkle the powder over salads or have it mixed with honey on an empty stomach. Another great method is to mix a spoon of it in a glass of diluted milk.
Vegetable juices: We all know that vegetables are great for our health, but vegetable juices are also great for people with prostate disorders. When it comes to beneficial vegetables, carrots and spinach are two that are known for their immense healing effect on the prostate gland. Not only are they packed with minerals like zinc, vitamin E and A (vitamins that help heal the prostate and make it function optimally) these vegetables are known to help reduce swelling in the gland. Dr H.K Bhakru suggests that people who suffer from this disorder should have either 500ml of carrot juice or in combination with spinach juice (300ml of carrot juice and 200ml of spinach juice).
