Ever had hiccups that just won't go away? Well don't worry we tell you how to banish them with a little help from Dr Arvind Aggarwal Senior Consultant of Internal Medicine at Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute Delhi. Why does one have hiccups? According to Dr Arvind Aggarwal 'Hiccups generally occur when the diaphragm (dome-shaped muscle that separates the chest cavity from the abdomen) involuntarily contracts. The contraction results in the sudden but brief closing of the vocal cords. This closure then produces the sound of a hiccup. There are no specific causes as to why a person has hiccups.
