Healthy recipes for diabetics: Lemon pleasure

LemonA drink that helps to add taste back into the day! Soluble fibre (pectin) present in the apple skin helps to keep blood sugar levels under a check. Jamun (black plum) is considered as a traditional medicine that helps pancreas release insulin (a hormone that is necessary to control blood sugar levels) and control diabetes. It is a good source of vitamin C and is also rich in calcium and phosphorous. Enjoy this juice without straining it because fibre being an important nutrient for diabetics should be retained in the juice.

Makes 2 small glasses (300 ml)

Apples (unpeeled), cored and cut into pieces 2 large

Black jamun, deseeded 1 cup

Lemon juice 1 tbsp

Crushed ice to serve



  1. Blend all the ingredients using little water (if required) till smooth.
  2. Add the lemon juice and mix well.
  3. Add some crushed ice in 2 glasses and pour the juice over it. Serve immediately.
