How to identify a spoilt eggEggs are great for your health. Not only are they packed with high quality proteins, but they are also very cheap and filling. Eggs are also a great source of essential nutrients like zinc, iron, vitamin A, B and D, lutein, choline and cholesterol. Essential to build cartilidge, strengthen bones, regulate hormones and are great for your skin and hair, eggs are perfect for gym goers since they contain an essential amino acid, that is the same as the one naturally found in the human body that is used to build muscles.

While most people trying to bulk up swear by eggs, there is a dark side to this ultimate health food. When eggs spoil they pose the risk of causing stomach infections like an upset stomach (food poisoning) due to salmonella (known as a disease called salmonellosis) or E.coli. So how do you know if an egg is fresh enough to eat? Well, there is an easy and cheap way to find out. Here's how:

Take a tall glass of water, and the egg that you think is spoilt. Drop the egg in the water. If the egg floats, its time to throw it out. In contrast a healthy and fresh egg will sink to the bottom and stay there. This happens because a healthy egg is dense and has very little air inside it. In the case of a spoilt egg, the organisms present inside it, tend to ferment and multiply using the egg's constituents as a source of nutrition. When these organisms break down the components of an egg, they produce a lot of gas. This gas collects in the egg, making it buoyant -- and therefore float in water.

So there you have it. Eat healthy and stay fit!
