diseases and conditions-what type of patient are you-THS

Just like we come across various types of doctors not just in terms of their specialisation but also the temperaments or behavior, doctors come across so many different categories of patients. If you have observed some people in the waiting room of a hospital or clinic, you can easily gauge a few types of patients that are either a headache or a breeze of fresh air for the doctors. Most often the former. Also Read - This immunotherapy combination shrinks rare, neuroendocrine: Study

Google baba: Don t know the answer, Google it. The word search will soon be replaced from the dictionary with Google. While it is nice to gather more information about your symptoms or the ailment you are suffering from, learn to keep the half knowledge to yourself. Let the doctor do his job and tell you what his inferences are instead of bombarding him with questions. The doctor doesn t want you to tell him that his senior Mr Google has already advised you few things. Save the doctor s and your time and money and rely on the knowledge from the web if you think that s better. This is how doctors can help patients have better medical experiences.

CID type: These type of patients look at everything and everyone with suspicion. They don t trust the doctor, the lab technician, the nurse or even the person at the reception. According to them, everyone is trying to fool or dupe them and in extreme circumstances, kill them. They keep pestering the doctor whether the diagnosis was done properly, if the test reports were not interchanged by error. They will even chew the receptionist s brain to check if she is following a fair procedure to those in a queue for the consultation. Did you know that trust issues between doctors and patients can worsen the symptoms of your disease?

The Saint: Now there are some who are as innocent as a kid and have faith in anyone and everyone. They patiently wait for their turn or even let the cranky ones go ahead. Allow the doctor to do his job and adhere to his advice. For doctors, these calm patients are like a painkiller which they are happy to prescribe to themselves thrice a day. Know more about patients rights in India and exercise them.

Crib master: This patient cribs about his pain, his family member s pain, his disease, his neighbour s disease, the ventilation in the hospital, the beggar outside the hospital, the colour of the medicine or anything else you can think of. Such patients demotivate the other patients sitting around them not just the doctor. The doctor has a hard time convincing these individuals to relax. If only the doctor could prescribe them a chill-pill. Here’s how you can be an informed patient.

Non-co-operative: The category says it all. Convincing them for a blood test or asking them to stay still during a procedure is next to impossible. Usually, old people fall into this category. They won t take medicines as prescribed, they won t follow the diet or physiotherapy plans, they won t undress during and ECG and the list goes on. These patients treat everyone at the clinic including their own family members as Britishers and ensure that they succeed in their non-co-operation movement.

Do these categories sound familiar? Which type are you? Share with us if you have observed any other type in the comments section below.
