Muscle cramps are very frustrating and can last for as long as 15 minutes. They cause excruciating pain that doesn't subside easily and for many people cramps ruin sleep. There are many reasons for muscle cramps like electrolyte imbalance in the body, interrupted blood circulation etc. But, they can be easily prevented by following simple things like drinking enough water throughout the day.

Muscles work by relaxing and contracting, and if a muscle does not relax at right intervals it is said to have cramped causing pain. Many people resort to popping pain killers to get rid of the pain, but that's not a solution to muscle cramps. But, if you get a muscle cramp in the middle of the night or your are not at home, you can quick get rid of them by simply massaging the affected area. Apply light pressure and massage the area in a circular motion. Do this for five to ten minutes and you will quickly be relieved. Massaging increases the blood flow to that area and soothes the pain. You can also stretch the muscle immediately. If you get a cramp in your calves, place your foot on the wall and heel on the floor and lean forward towards the wall while keeping the leg straight.
