Piles or hemorrhoids is one of the most common conditions people suffer from nowadays. The condition is characterised by swollen and inflamed veins in the lower rectum area. Hence, a person suffering from piles experiences severe pain while passing stools. Chronic constipation and bowel disorders are the primary causes of piles. Although there are ways you can treat piles, diet plays a vital role in reducing the hemorrhoidal pain, as well as preventing the occurrence of piles. Here are a few diet tips by nutritionist Prema Kodicalthat can help you get some relief.
Eat fibre-rich foods
It is crucial that your diet is rich in fibre. A fibre-rich diet can regulate your bowel movements and provide relief from constipation. Include a lot of barley, oatmeal, whole grain cereals, and leafy vegetables like spinach, beans, fenugreek leaves and citrus fruits like oranges to boost your fibre intake.
Consume foods rich in antioxidants
Flavonoids are antioxidants that improve blood circulation around the anus and also increase the strength of ligaments and tissues. They have been shown to reduce the symptoms of piles and also minimise the risk of persistent pain, itching, bleeding and reoccurrence. Therefore, include a lot of blueberries, cherries, blackberries and citrus fruits in your diet. Here are some more antioxidant-rich foods you should include in your diet.
Increase your water intake
Drinking a lot of water will help the digested food move smoothly through the intestine and prevent constipation. When you don t drink enough water, the walls of your intestine absorb water from the stools and make them hard. A hard stool is the leading cause of constipation and straining that results in piles.
