Note: The above diet plan is a general recommendation which further needs to be customised according to individual needs. Here are 10 healthy resolutions every diabetic must follow.
What to eat and what to avoid
Fruits
EAT apple, papaya, pear, guava.
AVOID mango, banana, chiku, grapes, pineapple. Also don't drink fruit juices and milkshakes.
Salad EAT
EAT cucumber,carrot, raddish, onion, lettuce, tomato.
AVOID dressings on salad.
Milk
EAT double tonned milk and milk products (butter milk /paneer/curd).
AVOID full cream milk and buffalo milk.
Cereals
EAT misi roti, brown rice, brown bread, biscuit (oats/ragi), bajra porridge and wheat porridge
AVOID cereals, maida, suji, white rice, white bread, biscuits.
Pulses and legumes
EAT legumes for lunch (chole, rajma, lobia, chickpeas).
Vegetables
EAT all green leafy vegetables (palak, methi, sarson, bathua), lauki, ridge gourd, tinda, parwal.
AVOID potato, arbi, sweet potato.
Non-vegetarian
EAT egg white, chicken, lean meat, fish.
AVOID egg yolk, red meat, fried chicken and fish.
Oil and fats
EAT olive, sunflower, saffola, mustard.
AVOID vanaspati ghee, butter, desi ghee.
Sugar is a complete no-no. Avoid sugar, sweets, jaggery, honey, jam, jelly and ice-cream.
