Sir Elton John, singer of Candle In The Wind, opens up about his heartbreaking battle of 15 months vision crisis. The 78-year-old singer told a leading media outlet that he contracted a severe eye infection in July last year, leaving him blind in his right eye, and with 'limited vision' in his left. Now, after recovering from the severe eye infection, he has issued an update about his health.

Elton John Says 'Someday Science Will Help Me'

He told the media, "It's been devastating. The last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven't been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything. I've had the most incredible life, and there is hope. I've just got to be patient that some day science will help me with this one."

Despite his devastating eyesight struggle, the Rock Man hitmaker is believed to remain hopeful, stoic and strong as he pushes through the hard times. Sir Elton John stated, "It's exactly like the AIDS situation. You just have to grin and bear it. It does get me down sometimes. You mustn't give up hope, you must be stoic, you must be strong and you must always try and batter the door down to try and improve things."

"The thing with my iPad is, I can actually see someone close up. So I often call Chappell, and of course I always call Brandi because she's one of my best friends," Sir Elton John said. "Paul McCartney FaceTimes me to see how I'm doing. It's really beautiful. The love I've received from him and from Pete Townshend and Mick Jagger and people like that has been amazing."

Sir Elton John is AIDS free, but he is very deeply affected by the epidemic and raises funds for the cause.
