It is Monday, and you get up with a cramp in your neck. Turning your head induces searing pain. Usually caused due to sleeping in an awkward position or on a pillow that is just not right for you, a sudden stiff neck can be quite painful and uncomfortable. You try to massage for a minute the sore area, but the pain does not leave you. What do you do? We have an easy tip from physiotherapist Dr Meenal Pandey that will help fix a stiff neck instantly.

Step 1: Find the sore spot on your neck and place your hand on the area. If the spot is on your right neck or back, put your right hand and if the spot is on your left neck, place your left hand. If you cannot reach your neck, you can use a tennis ball or any other prop to reach the spot. You can also lean against the wall for leverage. Here is a home remedy for stiff neck that actually works.

Step 2: Slowly press into the spot with your fingers and use firm pressure. You should feel a little pain while you are pressing with your fingers. Make sure that you are not pressing too hard as it can cause a lot of pain.

Step 3: Then slowly turn your head in the direction opposite to the cramp and then bend it diagonally like you are trying to touch your armpit with your chin. The pressure will help relax the cramped muscle and release the tension in the area.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1-3 for about 20 times in a row and stretch your neck and upper back just like how you would do when you get up from bed. Completing this series will help keep your muscles relaxed. Here are some causes and ways to prevent tension knots in the neck.
