Use drumstick leaves to beat menstrual pain

A common addition to many south Indian dishes, drumstick or moringa is choc-a-block with health benefits. But did you know that the plant's leaves work as a natural way to beat menstrual pain and cramping? Yes, a rich store house of essential vitamins and minerals drumstick leaves help you have your period without too much trouble.

How do drumstick leaves help relieve menstrual cramps?

According to a study published in the International Journal of Phytotherapy drumstick has emmenagogue (regularise the flow of blood to the abdomen) properties and helps reduce pain and cramping during menstruation. Apart from that these leaves, when combined with honey helps beat anaemia due to its high in iron and calcium content. Incidentally, in Ayurveda, one of the reasons for painful menstruation is believed to be due to anaemic causing more cramping of the abdomen. This is where drumstick leaves help. But apart from replenishing iron content in your body, drumstick leaves also helps make you feel stronger and replenishes lost nutrients in your body. It also helps regulate blood flow to and from the uterus, relives back and stomach pain -- a perfect natural remedy for dysmenorrhoea (painful menstruation).

How to use:

Take a few drumstick leaves and wash them. Then crush them to extract their juice. Now take about 1/4th cup of this juice and add a spoon of honey to it. Mix it well and drink it on an empty stomach, every morning for the first three days of your periods.
