Do you often wake up at night, drenched in sweat? This may be a familiar experience for people who live in very warm or hot climates. However, if the atmospheric temperature is cold and you are still sweating profusely at night, there may be under underlying reasons to consider. This is not a normal experience. But what cause sweating at night? There are a couple of normal reasons to consider and also some unusual ones. At night, your body goes through variations' of temperature. This may also depend on your sleep quality. If you are having an intense dream or a nightmare, your body temperature could become warmer. This can lead to sweating. However, this is normal. Let us look at the abnormal reasons which cause sweating at night.

What causes sweating at night?
If you are drinking alcohol before sleeping, it will raise your body temperature. Alcohol is known to warm your body so, if done right before bed time, this can cause excessive sweating and dehydration. Note that a little alcohol hours before bed time may not be that much of an issues however, if you are a heavy drinker it may cause problems. Make sure to drink in the evening and not at night.
Feelings of stress or anxiety may trigger sweating at night. This can also happen when you are having a dream or a nightmare.
Many people struggle with an overactive mind. The most common symptom of an overactive mind is when you have no control over your thought process and you tend to spiral very easily. This can rev up your mind and body leading to sweating. Note, this usually happens during night time because that is when our mind is the most vulnerable.
Sleep in cozy environment but make sure that cozy does not turn into overheating. This can cause sweating and discomfort.
If you are taking any type of medications, it may affect both your brain and body temperature and your sweat glands. Medications can also induce night sweats.
Women may experience night sweats because of hormonal problems, menstruation, perimenopause or menopause. This is normal but very uncomfortable.
If you suffer from hyperhidrosis, you may sweat excessively at night, say experts. The reasons are not stated in this case.

If, for any of the above mentioned reasons, you too experience profuse sweating at night, make sure to decrease the room temperature with AC or cooler and ensure enough ventilation before falling asleep.
