Tabletop machines are one of the most commonly used mosquito repellant techniques in regular households. The heating machine is attached to a small bottle filled with the repellant liquid which when heated helps ward off mosquitoes. Stop spending on the expensive refills which are no good even if you keep them on all day. I was shocked to once see a mosquito sitting right on the bottle. I had to search for a better option.

I have been using natural diffusers to get rid of mosquitoes at home. Applying oils or mosquito repellant creams seems too much work every day. So I decided to experiment with some basic mosquito repelling oils and see if an all-natural mosquito repellent refill could be made at home. I made two different types of it and both worked perfectly for me. Here s how you can make your DIY mosquito repellant plug-in refill:

You need:

1 empty refill bottle

2 tbsp neem oil

4-5 small tablets camphor

Method:

Grind the camphor to a coarse powder.

Pour the neem oil in the empty refill bottle. If you have a bigger bottle you can mix neem oil with a little coconut oil too. Just ensure that you mix both the oil is a bowl before pouring them inside.

Add the camphor powder and mix. Close the lid and plug it in with the heating machine.

Both camphor and neem oil have no side effects. In fact, they spread a pleasant aroma in the room and the repellant doubles up as an aroma diffuser too. The fragrance of the antiprotozoal compounds present in neem oil helps ward off the mosquitoes. Here s another way to make a mosquito repellant body lotion with neem oil.

  • For my other room, I used tea tree oil instead of neem and it gave the same effects. You can add a little citronella to it and shake well. These diffusers last for a good 15 days and are quite economical to use.
