Isn't heating water for your heating bag a cumbersome task? And what if it leaks or suddenly bursts open? It happened recently with me. Thankfully, only my mattress had to handle the boiling water. I found this DIY microwaveable heating pad that can be reused and absolutely loved it.
How to make a reusable heating pad at home
You need an old cotton sock or old towels sealed and stitched together to form a bag. Ensure that the material used is pure cotton since you will have to microwave the pad often.
For the filling you can use flax seeds, rice, beans, cherry pits, or wheat.
Take a clean sock or your sewed cotton bag and fill it 3/4th with the filling of your choice. Don't overstuff it as the bag or pad needs to mold according to the body part you are applying it on.
Sew the open end with a machine preferably, so it does not leak. You can also cover this heating pad with an old pillow cover so that the actual heating pad does not get soiled and can be used longer. Use Velcro to seal the cover and remove it for washing or cleaning.
Just place the heating pad in the microwave for 60 seconds or more depending on how hot you want it to be. Put the pad in the cover and comfort your aches, pains or just soothe yourself with this economical option.
Things you can use it for
To comfort yourself during labour
To ease aches and pains like muscle cramps, frozen shoulder that need heating pads.
During cold nights when you are missing an electric blanket since your feet are cold.
