Periods are definitely not the best time for a girl to feel energised and strong. With all that blood loss, cramps, fatigue it takes a lot of effort to drum up enough enthusiasm to go about doing the regular chores through the day. But you cannot stay in your bed for the whole day giving out excuses about your periods. So, no matter how bad you are bleeding or how much you are bleeding, you have to get up and move. But when you lack that strength to get going, you will definitely be in search of that elixir or a magic tonic that can give you strength enough to feel energetic. Here is what happens to your body when you are having your periods.
One way to help you fight periods-induced fatigue is by helping yourself to a glass of beetroot juice. There are reasons how beetroot juice can help:
Since periods mean excessive blood loss, this makes a woman feel drained. A glass of beetroot juice can help regain some of the vigour as beetroots are rich in iron and help to improve blood count and blood flow. Iron is an essential component of the red blood cells and responsible for supplying oxygen and nutrients to different parts of the body. Here are few other things that you should include in your diet during menstruation.
In India, where most girls in the reproductive age suffer from iron-deficiency anaemia, losing blood during periods will mean more weakness, palpitations and shortness of breath. Helping your body to generate more haemoglobin by having this iron-rich drink just makes sense.
Beetroot leaves are also rich in Vitamin A and roots in Vitamin C. Lack of Vitamin A could also lead to anaemia in some cases and Vitamin C deficiency can make it difficult for the body to absorb iron. So, having a glass of beetroot juice can help deal with these problems as well.
How to make the juice:
Beetroot juice is thought to be an excellent natural remedy for anaemia and has a host of benefits when taken during periods. Because the vegetable has a natural sweetness to it, you can have it without adding any preservatives or sugar. Take two to three medium-sized beetroots and wash them thoroughly. Next, peel and dice them and put them in a blender and blend at high speed. Pour the entire juice into a glass and drink it without adding any preservatives. To make this juice healthier, you can also add carrots, apples or other fruits and vegetables of your choice and try new variations.
