Pregnancy is a wonderful experience during which you go through emotional ups and downs. You may be on cloud nine one minute and sulking or irritated the next. The very hormones which helped you in conceiving are to be blamed for your mood swings, especially during your first trimester. Worries about the health of your unborn child, anxieties about the changes in your body and fear of labour pain can also cause the moodiness.
Here are a few ways to alleviate those pregnancy mood swings:
Get plenty of rest. Take a break when you can during the day to relax and recharge yourself.
Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Have small, frequent meals. Drops in blood-sugar levels can send you over the edge.
Keep yourself physically active. It can help lift your mood. Take a walk or go for a swim.Enrol yourself forstress-reduction classes like prenatal yoga or meditation.
Cultivate a hobby. Be it painting, writing, reading, cooking or gardening. Nurturing a hobby can be an extremely relaxing experience. It can distract you from pregnancy tensions and help fill your mind with positive thoughts.
Go easy on yourself. Get a massage or pamper yourself at home. Listen to soothing music.
Spend time with your partner. Try to picture you both as parents. Get your partner involved in selecting baby names. Collect baby images.
Open your heart out to your near and dear ones. Talking out to someone can help lift your spirits. It will help you calm down and see things more clearly.Confide your worries and apprehensions with the people you are closest to. You can even share your feelings with other moms-to-be on online forums.
During the last few weeks of pregnancy, the thought of going into painful labour may cause your mood swings. Join a Lamaze class.
