There has been a dip in temperatures across the country causing a cold wave that has brought with it illnesses like cold, cough, sore throat and even fever. Very soon, it will be time for spring and summer when the temperatures will rise and make the sweltering heat unbearable. It is very vital to keep your health and immunity in check in such conditions when seasons change. What's the best way to do it? Eating the right foods will ensure that you are able to fight sickness and provide your body with all the nourishment you need. Here are the top 5 foods that children (and adults too) should be eating right now during season change, according to celeb nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar.
1. Til (sesame) - "This is great for the health of bones, brain and the heart thanks to its naturally high levels of phytosterol, essential fatty acids and copper, " Rujuta says in a social media post.
Did you know that sesame can also prevent low bone mineral density and bone loss? Sesame is also loaded with antioxidants that help fight cancer. Sesame seeds are excellent for heart health too because they help increase HDL and lower LDL cholesterol.
2. Jaggery - According to Rujuta, 1 tsp jaggery and ghee mixture post lunch and dinner cleans up not just the intestines but sinuses too. Jaggery can also provide you with energy and keep your body warm in the cold weather. There is a reason why til gul made with sesame and jaggery is eaten during this time of the year.
3. Bajra To add warmth, Rujuta suggests adding fibre and minerals to your diet. Bajra goes well with all the seasonal green veggies too. Bajra is also good for heart health, helps digestion and lowers risk of cancer and diabetes. Bajra keeps you full for a longer time.
4. Gajar ka halwa Carrots are in season in winter. This is why hot gajar ka halwa is made in a number of homes across the country! Carrots are rich in essential fats, vitamins A and D and calcium which prevents infections, improves thyroid health and makes bones stronger.
5. Chyawanprash - The amla will calm the intestines and the ghee along with the other therapeutic ingredients, will moisturize the body from within. Take 1tsp to kick start your day.
