Clogged Arteries Symptoms: Clogged arteries, also known as atherosclerosis, occur when there is excessive buildup of substances like fat, cholesterol, calcium, and cellular waste on the inner walls of your heart arteries. Over time this buildup can form into plaque that can restrict the blood flow due to the narrowing of the artery lanes.
TheHealthSite.com spoke to Dr Vishesh Rathi, Cardiologist at Jenith Hospitals, Gurugram, to understand more about coronary artery blockages and the various signs and symptoms that the body can show.
"Coronary artery blockages, the medical term for artery blockages, are one of the leading causes of heart disease among the youths. These unusual plaque buildup inside the arteries can have serious consequences when left untreated. These arteries help the flow to flow and reach various parts of the body, helping them function optimally. However, in case of artery blockages, these arteries can face serious problems due to plaque formation. It is important to recognize the early warning signs of coronary artery blockages and prevent such severe cardiovascular events," said Dr Rathi.
One of the most common signs of coronary artery blockages or clogged heart is sudden chest pain or discomfort. At night this pain can get severe and often spread to other body parts such as shoulder, arm, neck, jaw, or back.
The next warning signs that the body can show up when the heart is facing trouble functioning is difficulty breathing or shortness of breath. This particularly occurs when the individual is involved in any type of physical activity. Why does this happen? As per the American Heart Association (AHA), this mainly occurs due to the reduced blood flow to the heart.
Another unusual symptom of a heart blockage or clogged artery is marked by unexplained fatigue or a feeling of extreme tiredness all the time. But do you know what causes this tiredness? As per studies, this fatigue happens due to reduced blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart muscle.
Never ignore excessive sweating as just a normal sign of heart exposure or a result of temperature change. Excessive sweating, especially without a clear reason, can be a warning sign of heart blockage. This is often associated with chest pain or other symptoms.
Feeling faint, dizzy, or lightheaded is another indicator of that your heart is at risk and you are suffering from coronary artery blockage. According to experts, this may occur suddenly and could be accompanied by chest pain or shortness of breath.
Feeling nauseous or vomiting can be a symptom of heart blockage, especially if it occurs along with chest pain or other symptoms.
In addition to chest pain and discomfort, in some rare cases, a patient who is suffering from coronary artery blockage or clogged arteries may also experience pain or discomfort in other parts of the body, such as the back, arms, neck, or jaw.
Beware of the above signs and symptoms of heart artery blockages. Remember, early medical intervention can help prevent other health complications that a heart blockage can lead to. How to manage your heart health?
