A single mosquito bite can land you in a hospital for dengue, malaria or chikungunya. And the only way to prevent this is to either use chemical mosquito repellents or innovative electric devices to kill mosquitoes. But if you are looking for natural and effective home remedies to prevent a mosquito bite, apply neem oil on your skin.
How does it work?
Applying a mixture of neem and coconut oil on the skin might keep mosquitoes at bay, revealed a study published in the Journal of American Mosquito Control Association. Neem contains antiprotozoal compounds that emit a peculiar smell which in turn wards off mosquitoes. Unlike chemical repellents, neem does not have any side effects and its anti-inflammatory properties soothe irritation and reduce inflammation. Here are other natural ways to keep your home mosquito free.
How to use it?
Mix one teaspoon of coconut oil with one teaspoon of neem oil. Apply this mixture on your skin before you sleep to prevent mosquito bites. You can use this mixture for kids because neem is natural and safe. If you still have doubt, you can do a patch test to check if your kid is allergic to neem. However, neem emits a peculiar smell that might put you off. In such cases, you can even use a neem oil diffuser. You can add 2- 3 drops of neem oil to the diffuser and keep it in a corner of the room or beside your bed to keep mosquitoes at bay. Did you know even mosquitoes have favorite spots in your home?
