Viral fever

A person contracts viral fever through another person who is suffering from it or from contaminated food and water too. You need to make sure that you maintain a good hygiene and consult your doctor if you have a fever along with a runny nose, headache and cough.

Dengue fever

Ah, who can forget Dengue fever which took over this country recently! Watch out for sudden high fever along with pain behind the eyes, headaches and even, skin rashes which occur few days after the onset of fever. If the fever persists for more than 24 hours, you will have to get yourself checked. Check out the symptoms of dengue here.

Flu

People suffering from flu often have a fever or feverish chills along with other symptoms like a runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, headaches and fatigue. Flu is one of the most common causes of fever. ‘If it’s a low-grade fever, take paracetamol. If you still have the fever for more than 24 hours, then you need to consult a doctor’, advices Dr Patil.

Swine flu

The symptoms of swine flu are common to those who experience seasonal flu, but it is highly contagious and spreads quickly from a person suffering from it through air droplets.

Malaria

Malaria is yet another vector-borne disease that can cause fevers and chills. You also feel nauseous and sweat if you have malaria.

Typhoid fever

Typhoid is generally caused by a bacteria called salmonella typhi. It is also caused by contaminated food and water. You suffer from high-grade fever, often up to 104 F, abdominal pain, diarrhoea and so on if you’re suffering from typhoid.

Hepatitis

A low-grade fever is a symptom of Hepatitis (all types) too. Make sure you look out for stomach aches and the colour of your urine before you go for a check-up.

Seasonal flu

Seasonal flu is when you experience cold, cough and fever because of the change in temperature or season. This type of fever generally goes away in two days.

Low-grade fever and high-grade fever

As the name suggests, a low-grade fever is a mild fever and a high-grade fever is up to 103 F or more. ‘If you have a low-grade fever, just take paracetamol. If the fever persists or increases, then visit your physician immediately’, says Dr Patil.

Fever due to infections

If you have just gone through a medical procedure or surgery, there are chances that you’ll get a fever. Apart from that, you can also get a fever due to a stomach infection, throat infection, etc.
