11 Indian Nationals And One Georgian Die Of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning In US; Is CO A Silent Killer?
In a tragic turn of events, 11 Indian nationala and one Georgian were found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning at Georgia's Gudauri ski resort, as per reports. The news was confirmed by the Indian mission in Tbilisi. They also stated that investigations regarding the cause of death are underway. According to the preliminary findings, a power generator was positioned in an enclosed area that was close to the bedrooms of the resort.
What Is Carbon Monoxide and why is it so dangerous if inhaled in huge quantities? CO gas is colourless, odourless and tasteless which is why it is so difficult to trace. A human being may be inhaling carbon monoxide without knowing it until the symptoms get severe. In most of the cases of CO poisoning, it is detected late and that is what causes deaths.
The bodies of the deceased were reportedly found in a sleeping area above a restaurant in Guduari, Georgia. This destination is a very famous tourist spot and is also the largest and highest ski resort. As per initial tests, the police reported that they did not find any trace of violence on the bodies. But investigation revealed that an oil-powered generator had been turned on when the building lost electricity which may have lead to the carbon monoxide poisoning.
