I am 58 years old male. I am taking hypertension medicines. Right now my blood pressure is under control at 120/85. But, I am facing a problem. Whenever I get up after sitting down or when I raise my head suddenly like after I tie my laces, I feel dizzy. Is it due to the medication I am taking for hypertension?
What you're experiencing is called 'orthostatic hypotension,' a temporary or transient drop in blood pressure that causes a person to feel dizzy upon standing. Mild orthostatic hypotension is not a serious problem but people who take medicines for hypertension are at a greater risk of suffering from it. So, in your case, too, the chances are high that it could be happening because of the medicines you're taking. According to Dr Sanjeev Chaudhary, Associate Director & Unit Head, Cardiology, FMRI, overdose of medicines for hypertension can cause a drop in blood pressure. 'It can make you feel dizzy. You might also faint if the blood supply to the brain is inadequate. That's why, a steady drop in blood pressure over 2-4 weeks is desirable,' he says.
Ideally, you should check your dosage with your doctor. Also adhere to prescribed dosage and take medicines on time.
