A stroke is caused by the block of blood flow to the brain and can often lead to death. Strokes can be of different types and can also affect your body in different ways. Sometimes mild strokes can happen but it may not be fatal. Severe strokes lead to death because of two reasons, first, when there is a rupture in the arteries and second, when there is severe blockage in the arteries which in turn blocks the flow of blood in the brain for a prolonged time. In 2o23 a study published in the Lancet Journal done in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) mentioned that, in low or lower-middle class countries like that of India, bran stroke can be the cause of death for almost 10 million people by the year 2050. This speculation w2as done in accordance to the number of stroke cases reported from India in 2019. In South East Asia, India ranked the highest in the number of stroke cases. ICMR data from 2021 also shows that stroke is the third leading cause of death and sixth leading cause of disability in India.
