If you end up scratching your legs, back, arms and everywhere all night and wonder what could be the reason, then it's time to do a quick clean up of your home. It could be a sign of bed bug infestation. A single bed bug is all you need to infest your house. You can carry one from trains in the gaps on a seat or your recent visit to a hotel, where mattresses and bed may not have been cleaned for years. Whatever is the case, bed bugs can easily fit into your purse, luggage bags or clothes. So if you have a red rash on the skin, it may not be a mosquito bite. Here are few signs that you have bed bug infestation.

  • Pale red and swollen bumps on your skin.
  • Burning sensation on the skin following a bite
  • Frequent itching at different places on the body.
  • Rash across a localised area or in straight lines due to multiple bites.

An infestation can happen to anyone and you might not realise it for days at a stretch before you experience any of these symptoms. Unlike ant bites or mosquito bite that cause a specific spot on the body, a bedbug can bite anywhere on the exposed body. Initially, it could be painless, however, with time, the body might become sensitive to bed bug bites and you might end up having sleepless nights with red bumps on the skin and itching all night. Bedbugs do not get attached to the hosts instead, they feed on human blood and go into hiding, which is the reason, it is difficult to know about bed bug infestation. Here are few bedbug facts that will make you start itching.

Your room can also reveal if it is been infested with bedbugs. Here are few signs to know ifyour room has bed bugs.

  • You can check the crevices, edges and piping of your mattress of the bedsheets or mattresses for faecal stains. This is because, once bedbugs ingest blood, it excretes which could be a physical sign of bed bug infestation.
  • Look for a clear bed bug shell, which is actually the exoskeleton. As the bed bug grows big, it sheds the skin, which could be a tell-a-tale sign of bedbugs in your room.
  • Another visible sign to look out in your room for bedbug infestation is blood stains on your sheets or clothes.
