Barley is your answer to reduce water retention

Drinking barley water daily can solve your problem of edema or water retention.

What might seem as just basic water retention can pose severe health problems in future. High intake of salt and drinking less water often lead to water retention. Reducing your salt intake is a good way to solve the issue. There are several other home remedies of water retention. Foods that are diuretics or rich in potassium aid in reducing and preventing water retention and in few cases, edema too. Barley is one such food that that besides being beneficial for diabetics and helping in weight loss, but is a great natural remedy for water retention too. How barley helps?

Barley acts as a mild diuretic and helps you urinate frequently, thereby flushing out toxins. Regular consumption of lemon barley water has been recommended while flushing kidney stones. Barley is rich in magnesium, which may help to prevent kidney stones from occurring, as well as aids in flushing out toxins. The insoluble fiber in barely water can also act against gallstone formation. Ayurveda recommends barley water for edema too. Here are some tips to deal with edema or swollen feet during pregnancy.

How to use barley water?

Boil barley is 3-4 cups of water for 15-20 minutes. Strain it and allow it to cool. You can add lime juice or orange juice to this water for flavour. Consume it daily instead of regular water to reduce fluid retention in the body. You can also soak barley in water overnight and drink that water twice a day.
