Going on a holiday can be the best thing but your bad back can spoil all the fun. Do not panic as there are a few things you can do to reduce the strain on your back and have a pain-free travel. We got you a few tips from Dr Deepali Andhare, Head- corporate wellness, Qi Spine Clinics.
Sit in proper posture: Sitting for prolonged periods in the bus or in the flight can strain your back and your improper posture can make it even worse. Make sure that your spine is aligned against the back of the seat so that you put less stress on your back. The headrest should support the middle of your head. Also, keep your shoulders straight and place your feet firmly on the floor.
Extend your legs: Also, when you are sitting you need to keep your legs in the extended position. Keeping your legs bent or flexed may sometimes lead to a blood clot in the veins of the legs.
Move around: Also, avoid sitting at a stretch and make sure that you get up every hour to do some stretching or walk till the pantry in the flight.
Travel light: Travelling light with just a light suitcase can go a long way in reducing the stress on your back. Your best bet is to pick a suitcase or a bag with wheels with a handle for rolling. Here are 8 expert tips to deal with lower back pain after pregnancy.
Use a foam roller: You might also want to carry a foam roller with you when you are travelling. Foam rollers can help untie the knots in your muscles and heal the tissue. Try to put up in a resort or a hotel with a gym so that you do not have to carry the bulky weight of the foam roller. Here's how you should squat with lower back pain.
Avoid eating inflammatory foods: Certain foods can cause inflammation in your body and you might want to avoid such foods at any cost especially when you are travelling. Sugar is the biggest culprit so stay away from sources of sugar such as packaged foods and dairy.
