Major Cause of Asthma Various causes that lead to Asthma (TamakaShwasa) as described in Ayurveda are:

  3. Drinking unboiled, cold milk (in the form of milkshakes, ice creams etc)
  4. Drinking cold water, Cold drinks.
  5. Regular intake of black gram, oily spicy food
  6. Exposure to cold (A.C), travelling in cold weather.
  7. Exposure to pollutants, pollens, smoke etc.
  8. Suppression of natural urges.

These medicines can be used in various combinations.   1. Always drink warm water
  2. Wheat, old rice, Green gram (Moong), Kulith (Horse gram) , Yava (Barley) , Snake gourd , etc can be used in daily diet.
  3. Daily inclusion of Ginger, Garlic, Black pepper and turmeric in diet.
  4. Always have freshly prepared and warm food.
  5. Do not eat heavy to digest food, deep fried food, stale food.

Biggest Risk Factors of Asthma and How Ayurveda Helps in it The risk factors of Asthma include:

  1. Having a blood relative (such as a parent or sibling) with Asthma.
  2. Exposure to smoke, pollution (may be an Occupational hazard)
  3. Being Anemic
  4. Having recurrent respiratory tract infections, Chronic Rhinitis (cold), etc.

These are the conditions, which increase the risk of acquiring asthmatic conditions. Apart from the genetic factor, other conditions like anaemia, rhinitis etc can be treated with Ayurveda. Ayurved has a unique treatment branch called Rasayan Therapy, which increases the immunity of the person. This further helps to protect the person from recurrent infections which are the risk factors. A medicine prepared from Pippali or Piper longum is especially advised as rasayan in patients with chronic respiratory diseases including asthma.
